What the trade radar is

The trade radar turns the raw monthly pulse of European chemistry, imports and exports across CN chapters 20 to 39, into a navigable read of how the industry is moving. Every figure is a slice of the same Eurostat Comext cube: declarants restricted to EU27, partners worldwide, history back to 2002.

Data and methodology

How the radar is built

Read the methodology →

End-to-end reproducible from public Eurostat data. Behind every figure on the radar lives a precise filter, a documented calculation, and a scheduled pipeline step. The pipeline is open: the status site tracks every weekly run, and the methodology page documents every choice.

Source. Eurostat Comext bulk distribution, monthly EU external trade statistics, declarants restricted to EU27.
Filter. CN chapters 20 to 39, the chemistry-relevant universe.
Pipeline. Five steps from .7z fetch to Parquet export, idempotent, with revision sweeps for Eurostat republications.
Cadence. Weekly cron on Monday at 06:00 CET, with a 24-month rolling revision window.

Scope: NACE division 20 (chemicals and chemical products) and NACE 2110 (basic pharmaceutical products), per Cefic perimeter. CN8 product list aligned with the official Eurostat classification correspondence CN 2025 ↔ CPA 2.1 published on showvoc.op.europa.eu. Note: Eurostat's NACE-keyed publications (ds-059366) may differ by ~2–3% due to internal aggregation rules applied to products without a published CPA correspondence. Source: Cefic analysis based on Eurostat Comext data (EU27 declarants only, GB/UK excluded).
